Recycling Organic Waste Into Something Good

Pope/Douglas has recently completed construction of the regional Glacial Ridge Compost Facility. Opening in September 2022, this facility currently serves the composting needs of Douglas, Pope, Grant, Stevens, and Otter Tail counties in Minnesota.  

Additional cities, counties, and businesses are welcomed to join and participate in the organics recycling program by contacting the Glacial Ridge Compost Facility for additional information.

This facility is for hauler, contractor, and large scale industrial drop-off of organic recycling only. No public drop-off available. See options for public disposal using the links below.

Compostable Items

CAN be accepted

All food scraps
Napkins and paper towels
Uncoated/unshiny paper plates, cups & food containers
Household plants and flower clippings
All BPI Certified compostable products (certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute).

CANNOT be accepted

Plastics of any kind including, Styrofoam, plastic bottles, condiment packets, plastic packaging, chip bags & candy wrappers and compostable plastics that do not meet BPI Certification standards
Fast food wraps, plastic coated paper, freezer boxes, etc.
Milk cartons and other beverage cartons
Cardboard boxes coated in wax
Wood pallets
Metal items including foil, metals, and cans
Glass
Tissues or face wipes due to additives, oils, and makeup
Diapers, sanitary products, or pet waste
