Environmental Assistant

8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, overtime and occasional weekends as necessary.

Organizational Relationships

  • Reports to the Environmental Coordinator.
  • Has contact with the public, school districts, private businesses, and other governmental agencies.

Examples of Work

  • Assists and directs the public with recycling, organics, household hazardous waste, appliances, electronics, scrap metal and other items accepted at the Environmental Center.
  • Assists public, school districts, private businesses, and other governmental agencies with solid waste, recycling, and grant opportunity programs under the supervision of the Environmental Coordinator.
  • Educate the public on proper recycling procedures.
  • Assists environmental and office staff with clerical duties and performs other duties as assigned by the Environmental Coordinator and Director.
  • Serves as point person with the public by answering phones, directing calls, greet walk ins, and directs public accordingly.
  • Maintains and assists in product exchange area and repair programs.
  • Prepares and maintains monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Assists Environmental Coordinator with program development.
  • Travels to locations to promote programs.
  • Orders supplies for organics and business programs as directed by Environmental Coordinator.
  • Performs other related works as required

Education, Experience & Abilities Required

  • Excellent human relations skills and communication skills, including the ability to make verbal presentation to large and small groups.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written communication
  • Broad knowledge of environmental programs
  • Ability to carry out programs with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to work some Saturdays and evenings if required.
  • Direct the public in a tactful and friendly manner
  • Possess the ability to be courteous yet firm with the public
  • Valid Class D Driver’s License
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Background or degree involving environmental studies or related is a plus.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

Salary Range

Hourly $18.898 - $24.110 Hourly, Non – Exempt Position
